La Cygne Tournament

This was my first time at this beautiful power plant lake. The only problem was the water was only 53-54 degrees and the air temperature at the start was only 52 degrees. My partner Jim had been to this lake several times prior to this tournament and I had faith we going to go well. After a nights cold rain the lake was absolutely calm. So we head over to the damn where my boater pulled in 3 fish. While I couldn’t do anything to get a bite and pull in a fish. The wind started to come in from the cold front and we decided to change positions.
We pull along this wall and I hook up with a nice 4 pounder with a chatterbait. Next cast to the same spot and I hook up with something even bigger and it started to pull drag when it got away. For the life of me I just couldn’t catch a fish on a shakey head. My partner was throwing a wacky rigged worm and he let me borrow one and I ended up catching another fish.
I ended up in 11 in the tournament; however I learned some valuable lessons from Jim.

Lake Fork Adventure with Cody Malone

I booked Cody originally for the previous October however due to a hurricane we had to cancel our fishing due to extreme conditions; however we changed the date to my birthday weekend.  I had fished Lake Fork the previous April; however my best friend had not so he was going to be in for a treat.  So we take off from the Oak Ridge Marina in the morning and the sun was out so I knew the day was going to be a day for some good bed fishing.  We go way back into this main lake creek and find a nice bass on a bed and in about 5 minutes (and several frustrating flips by me) I finally caught the fish.

Fork Fish

Next up was my friend Danny and he caught himself a good largemouth as well.  Then we pull around this cove and I saw Cody’s eyes light up and he got extremely excited.  He took the bait and flipped into the bed to see if this fish was a catchable. And I saw this fish roll and it had to be the largest bass I have ever seen in person (12-14 pounds).  For the next 5 hours we spent flipping to this huge bass.  This bass would go nose down to the lure but the male would come over and bumo her on the side and make her go off the bed.   We took a small break and Dan caught himself a nice 6 pounder off of a bed. Then we came back and flipped into the 12-14 pound bass for a little bit more and Cody (who was extremely frustrated) and in a last ditch effort for the day caught the male in hopes the we could then catch the female, however the female did not come back.

Bed Fish Fork

The second day started out a little different.  It started with a huge thunderstorm that delayed the start of our day.  Once the storm cleared up with ended up throwing a Carolina Rig (which I never thrown before) and Dan threw a drop shot.

Nick Dan Bed Fish

We each caught a fish on our respective techniques and by some miracle the sun came out. So we decided to go look for some beds.  We ended up nailing a lot of fish flipping on beds all over 5 pounds including a 9.6 and Dan caught an 8.

BASS Southern Open on Toho

On day 1 at Toho I drew a great partner Chad Morgenthaler.  He was on an awesome punching pattern.  Even though the weather was challenging with the Florida strain bass and the freezing weather, he boated at least 8 fish and I boated 2.

Lake Toho

Second day I drew a local angler.  We started on a long flat throwing a rattle trap right next to Gerald Swindle. Then we made the long trip to Lake Kissimmee through all of the long canals.  We attempted to punch the mats, but we did not catch a fish.  After the long day of catching no fish we again went to the long flat and tossed the rattle trap and this time we started catching fish.  I ended up catching 3, but only one would measure as a keeper.

My Reel-Deal Adventure!

I had a great day down in Miami with Adam Rizzi from Reel-Deal Adventures.  The day started off like any other day except I was just outside of Miami.  Today I was going to be fishing in the Pembroke Pines area for Peacock Bass

If you are in the Miami area and want to catch some Peacock bass then look up Reel-Deal Adventure and book a trip.

We were having an awesome day with dual Peas on back to back casts.

Boing Lures – Incredible is an Understatement!

Topwater baits..  a class of lures that that people absolutely love due to the fact they can actually see the fish strike the lure.  I absolutely love this style of lure and use this technique as often as I can.  While I’m fishing you will frequently find me throwing a Omega Alpha Shad buzzbait, a buzzfrog, or even  Pop-R.  However, you would never find me throwing a walk the dog style bait until now.

Part of this website’s mission is to provide information about new and exciting lures.  If you are into top water fishing then this is one of the lures that you should know and always keep stocked in your tackle box.  This, made in America, walk the dog style lure has a lot of features!  This lure is extremely easy to cast long distances, the company provides great customer service (will explain this later), it walks extremely easily and creates a unique sound while walking, and it really does catch fish.

I was introduced to this bait while reading some posts on face book.  I kept reading posts about this lure and other anglers kept stating that this lure has a unique sound and was catching fish.  I watched a few videos about this lure and I decided since I had an upcoming tournament that I needed to purchase a few.  I ordered a few of these lures in the ice shad version.  Unfortunately , they were out of stock, however the owner of Boing gave me a call and he ended up overnighting 2 different color lures (literally all they had) so I would have them for the upcoming tournament.

So thanks to Jason from Boing Lures I received these lures on Saturday afternoon and 20 minutes later I was on the water with these lures.  I was fishing along a ledge and within a few casts I saw the effectiveness of these lures.  Over the next few hours I managed to catch about 25 fish mostly largemouth but I also caught smallmouth and hybrids.  I was amazed at the vicious strikes that I got on this bait!!

I asked Boing Lures Pro-Staffer Hunter Gregory about the lures and he stated “The Boing Lure is the easiest casting, easiest walking topwater lure that I have ever thrown. The resonant “Boing” sound that the bait creates drives fish crazy, and will trigger even the lock-jawed bass in your favorite lake!”

My Finals Thoughts

One of my weaknesses as a fisherman was the walk-the-dog style of baits.  It was always difficult to cast them a long ways and it was complicated to get the lure to walk.  However, as soon as I got this lure it really made fishing with this style of bait a lot easier.  Overall, I believe this is perhaps the best Walk-the-Dog bait I have ever used.  Fishing this lure has helped me catch more fish thus making me a better angler.

Review of the RAZR Rods

Razr Rods- Best Rod on the Market Hands Down!

Walking into Cabellas, Bass Pro, or shopping online at you will see 100′s of different rods by dozens of different companies. So how do you know which  companies’ rods to choose?

I’ve fished G Loomis, St Croix, Dobyns Rods, and Duckett Rods and I want you to know that I’ve found a companies’ rods that is far more superior than other companies’ rods.

My love for the RAZR rod brand began in January at the Kansas City Sports Show.  My friend bought me a spinning rod that I started using to fish for crappie.  Then during family vacation I hired Rick LaPoint’s guide service to fish Table Rock Lake.  The guide I was fishing with was using the RAZR rods so I got to use them for bass fishing.  Shortly after this  I decided to purchase a half dozen of the RAZR Rods and I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve been fishing with these rods since July 1st and I have been absolutely amazed!  I could fish with any rod on the market, however I believe in the RAZR rod.  My hook up ratio has significantly increased since switching over to solely using the RAZR rod brand.

Have you heard of Razr Rods prior to reading the article? If not now you have!! If you have you should purchase a rod and tell them the Extreme Bass Angler sent you there.

That is why in my humble opinion these rods are the best on the market. Hands Down!  Best Part about these rods is that they are made in America!

You wont find these Companies at your local Tackleshop, but Should!

**Disclaimer – At the time of writing this I am not on the Pro-Staff of any of the companies that I am writing about. **

When you walk into your local tackle shop what spinner bait, jig, or soft plastics do you see? Strike King, Berkley, Yum, Zoom, Gary Yamamoto or even Booyah Baits. Sure these are what you find at your local bait shop, but there are so many other companies out there making high quality lures.

The next time you are in need of some tackle I challenge you to look beyond the typical tackle and look at these companies.

You can purchase some of the tackle below at . If the baits are not available there to purchase check out the companies’ website

Omega Custom

Omega Custom Tackle is a smaller company that makes outstanding Jigs and Buzzbaits. The Alpha Shad Buzzbait has a unique sound and has caught me my 7 out of 10 biggest bass of the year.

They make some outstanding jigs! The Football jigs are unbelievable and I probably own at least 50 of them in various weights (1/2 and 1 oz).

This company did produce probably one of the best instructional videos I have ever watched. I highly encourage anyone who wants to improve their jig technique to watch this video. (pic of video shown below)

Omega makes several different types of jigs: Finesse, Flippn’, Pitchn’, and made in several different types of jig heads. My favorite jig that they make its the Remitz jig.

Power Team Lures

Power Team

Power Team Lures is a phenomenal soft plastic company that has the customer service to match their superior products. Their creature baits and worms are top notch. Combining a creature bait with an Omega jig is dangerous.

The Craw D’oeuvre and Conviction Craw are Extreme! I like to use them as Jig Trailors on my Omega Jigs or I like to put a heavy weight used for punching thick mats. The Ribbon worm is one of the best worms I have ever used. This worm has more action when compared to the other plastic worms I have used.

If I didn’t believe in these lures I wouldn’t have ordered the pro packs!

Bionic Custom Baits

If you are in the market for a spinnerbait this is where you want to go! If you can imagine a blade combination then this company can make it. The Customer Service is top notch and you really get the feeling that they care about the product they produce.

I ordered some Custom Spinnerbaits from them and I could not be happier with the results. I had ordered custom Double Colorado blades and these look and feel amazing.

Pro Edge Baits

Pro Edge Baits is another soft plastic bait company and terminal tackle company. This is another small company that makes absolutely phenomenal soft plastics. If you really want to have a good flipping bait you will have to try 4.25″ Creeper. Each appendage slowly moves independently of each other. It is amazing!! You can use it Texas Rigged, as a grass matt Puncher, or even as jig trailer.

I choose these two custom soft plastics makers below due to my personal experience with them. Both of them can make just about any thing you could want! The detail and work into each soft plastic is amazing! Each of them from Paul or Tattoo Baits is a work of art!

Paul Krew’s Custom Baits — email him:

Paul Krew’s Custom Baits are much more like a work of art rather than a soft plastic lure. The colors he mixes appear life like and the detail he puts in them is absolutely amazing. The picture that I took really doesn’t do it justice. I added a second picture so you can see the amount of detail that Paul puts into his soft plastics.

Custom poured Beaver! Look at that detail!

Tattoo Baits

This is a custom soft plastic lure company and if you can imagine a color combination they will try to accommodate. These soft plastics are made with great detail and you sure wont be disappointed!! What I like most about the Buzzfrog from Tattoo baits is the amount of action it has compared to the other Buzzfrogs on the market that I have used. If you need any custom swirl or a core shot Tattoo can set you up!

The Picture below is my custom order of Buzzfrogs in the exact color that I wanted. The action on this is amazing! The plastic is soft enough to give it great action, but it is still durable for a few bass!
